Today in West Caring, we had 21 members attend.
We watched a short video and spoke about LGBT+ representation in the media. Members spoke about the fact that sometimes LGBT+ characters are non-existent and/or misrepresented. We spoke about the lack of individuals of color being shown, many facets of gender/sexuality not being shown, and LGBT+ individuals being used as a joke or shocking plot line as opposed to it being a normal thing. Positive (or even just neutral and existent) representation matters.

Hello, everyone!
Sorry for the lack of posts. West Caring has been going strong this year (though Ms. Revill- the lady writing these posts up- has been a busy lady). Over the past weeks of meetings, the major things we have been working on are: -Participating in discussons on how to be caring and supportive allies -Planning a social event at the school to be sponsored by our club Back to today's meeting (12/05/19): -27 members attended -We created rainbow garlands to be used as decorations at our upcoming social event -Members enjoyed spending social time together in this safe space where they can be themselves! :) Hopefully, these updates will be back on track. Thank you for your support of our mission to provide a safe group space for our students! |
